A Look Back: The History of Kilmanagh
Before it was called Kilmanagh, this area was known as Thompson's Corners. This name came from Francis Thompson, an Irish homesteader who arrived in 1861. A homesteader was someone who settled on land given by the government to farm and live on.
The name Kilmanagh was first used for a nearby stream called Shebeon Creek. This creek would often overflow its banks every spring. A post office officially named Kilmanagh served the community from February 1873 until June 1904.
