Kim Jung-nam (Hangul: 김정남; Hanja: 金正男) was born on January 28, 1943. He is a famous South Korean former football player and manager. He played as a sweeper, which is a type of defender.

Playing for His Country

Kim Jung-nam was a very important player for South Korea. He and his teammate Kim Ho were known as one of the best defensive duos ever. In 1962, he played for the South Korea youth team. He also joined the main senior national team that same year.

He played for the national team until 1973. He played in 67 games for his country. This included matches in the 1970 Asian Games, where his team won a gold medal!

Leading the Teams

After he stopped playing, Kim Jung-nam became a football manager. He led the South Korean national team in the 1986 FIFA World Cup qualification. Under his guidance, South Korea made it to the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 32 years. This was a huge achievement!

At the 1986 FIFA World Cup, his team played against strong teams like Argentina and Italy. They also had a draw with Bulgaria. After the World Cup, he led South Korea to win the gold medal at the 1986 Asian Games.

Kim Jung-nam is also known for winning the most games as a manager in the K League, which is South Korea's top football league. He has 210 victories and has won two K League titles.

Football seems to run in Kim Jung-nam's family! He is the older brother of twins Kang-nam and Sung-nam. Both of his younger brothers also became national football players for South Korea.
