Kim Manners' Early Life and Family

Kim Manners grew up in a family involved in show business. His father, Sam Manners, was a producer for shows such as The Wild Wild West and Route 66.

Kim started acting when he was very young. His first role was in a Chevrolet commercial at age three. He often watched his father work and also learned from William Beaudine, who directed The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin. Beaudine inspired Kim to become a director himself.

Kim's brother, Kelly Manners, also became a producer and director. He worked on shows like Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Kim's sister, Tana, is also a television director.

Kim Manners' Directing Career

He directed episodes for many other well-known shows. These include 21 Jump Street, Mission: Impossible, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Baywatch.

Working on The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.

He really enjoyed working on Brisco County, Jr. and felt it helped him grow creatively. He said it "woke me up as a director." This experience helped him a lot with his later success on The X-Files.

Directing The X-Files

Kim Manners became a producer and director for The X-Files in its second season. His friends Rob Bowman, James Wong, and Glen Morgan suggested he join the show. They had worked with him before on 21 Jump Street.

Manners and his fellow producers were nominated for four Emmy Awards. These nominations were for Outstanding Drama Series in 1995, 1996, 1997, and 1998. An episode of The X-Files even had a character named after him.

After The X-Files ended in 2002, Manners directed a few smaller projects. Then, in 2005, he started directing and producing Supernatural.
