Communities in Kinderhook Township
Kinderhook Township has no big cities or towns inside it. Instead, it has three smaller communities. These are places where people live close together but are not officially separate towns.
- Canada Shores is a community found on the southeast side of Coldwater Lake.
- Kinderhook is located just west of exit 3 on I-69, a major highway.
- West Kinderhook is another small community in the township.
Geography and Lakes
Kinderhook Township is known for its many lakes. These lakes are important because they are connected to different rivers.
The lakes in the western part of the township flow into the Prairie River. Lakes in the southern part drain into the Fawn River. Coldwater Lake, which is in the northeast, flows into the Coldwater River.
The total area of the township is about 55.3 square kilometers (21.4 square miles). Most of this area, about 50.4 square kilometers (19.5 square miles), is land. The rest, about 4.9 square kilometers (1.9 square miles), is water. This means about 8.82% of the township is covered by water.
