King Christian Island is a cool, quiet place in the far north of Canada. It's part of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, a huge group of islands. This island belongs to the Sverdrup Islands and the larger Queen Elizabeth Islands.
You can find King Christian Island in the Qikiqtaaluk Region of Nunavut, Canada. It sits in the chilly Arctic Ocean. The island is about 13.5 kilometers (8.4 miles) from the southwest coast of Ellef Ringnes Island. The Danish Strait separates these two islands.

King Christian Island is a pretty big place, even though no one lives there. It covers an area of about 645 square kilometers (249 square miles). That's larger than many cities!
Island Size and Shape
The island stretches for about 38.8 kilometers (24.1 miles) in length. It is also about 25.7 kilometers (16.0 miles) wide. The highest point on the island is King Christian Mountain, which is 165 meters (541 feet) tall.
Who Discovered the Island?
The first European to visit King Christian Island was a man named Gunnar Isachsen. He explored the island in 1901. Later, in 1916, another explorer named Vilhjalmur Stefansson mapped out its southern coast. These explorers helped put the island on the world map!
