History of King City
King City was started by the Tualatin Development Company in 1964. It was designed as a special planned community for adults. The city officially became a city in March 1966. The first part of the city, covering about 273 acres, was finished around 1978.
Originally, King City was a community where only people aged 50 or older could live. This rule was set by the King City Civic Association (KCCA). Later, these rules changed to follow a federal law from 1988. This law set the age limit to 55 or older.
Over time, King City grew beyond its first boundaries. It now includes newer areas where there are no age limits. The city plans to expand even more to the west in the future. In 2024, the City Council approved adding about 215 more acres to the city. This expansion was supported by all the landowners in that area.
Geography of King City
