Louis King Johnson, Jr. (born December 27, 1987), known as King Louie or King L, is an American rapper. He is famous for his music, especially in the hip-hop and drill genres. In 2012, Spin magazine said King Louie was one of the Chicago rappers making the city a top spot for hip-hop music.

Early Life in Chicago

Louis King Johnson Jr. was born in Chicago, Illinois, on December 27, 1987. He grew up on the city's Eastside. He went to Hyde Park Academy High School for some time. Later, he finished his schooling at an alternative school.

King Louie's Music Journey

After high school, King Louie started to share his music. He would give out his CDs to people at bus stops and parties. This helped him gain fans.

His music career faced a challenge when he was hit by a car. He broke both his legs and had other injuries. He had to learn to walk again after getting better. But he did not give up on music!

He soon returned to making music. He released many mixtapes online. Songs from these mixtapes became popular. His song "Too Cool" was played often on the radio station WGCI-FM.

To share his mixtapes even more, King Louie started making music videos. He posted these videos on YouTube. His first video was for "I'm Arrogant" in 2010. This song was from his mixtape Man Up, Band Up. He kept making more videos and quickly gained many followers. His YouTube videos helped him become known across the country.

In 2012, King Louie went to Los Angeles, California. There, he signed a deal with Epic Records. Around the same time, the famous rapper Kanye West mentioned King Louie. West's record label, GOOD Music, released a remix of a song by another Chicago artist. During this release, Kanye West talked about new and rising artists, including King Louie. King Louie later said on MTV's Sucker Free show that he was surprised and happy that West was a fan. He even appeared on Kanye West's album Yeezus. King Louie performed a part of the song "Send It Up" on the album.
