King Solomon High School is a Modern Orthodox Jewish school for boys and girls in Barkingside, a part of Greater London, England. It is a comprehensive school, which means it welcomes students of all abilities. The school first opened its doors in 1993 with Mr Alastair Falk as its first headteacher.

The school has a special connection to the Jewish faith. All students take Jewish Studies classes. The school's motto comes from a famous Jewish text and asks students to think about their responsibility to themselves and others.

School History

King Solomon High School has seen several changes over the years. After the first headteacher, Mr. Falk, left, Rabbi James Kennard took over. In 2007, Spencer Lewis became the new headteacher.

In 2013, Mr. Lewis left and was replaced by Jo Shuter. After she left, Dr. Paul C. Doherty served as the acting headteacher for a while.

A Change of Name

In November 2016, the school received a large donation from Dr. Moshe Kantor, who was the president of the European Jewish Congress. To thank him, the school changed its name to Kantor King Solomon High School.

However, this name did not last. In 2022, the UK government placed restrictions on Dr. Kantor because of world events. As a result, the school decided to change its name back to King Solomon High School.

Learning and Trips

As a state school in England, King Solomon High School follows the National Curriculum. This sets out what students should learn.

  • Years 9-11: Students study for their GCSE exams.
  • Years 12-13 (Sixth Form): Older students work towards their A-level exams and other qualifications like Tech Levels.

The school also offers exciting trips for students. Year 9 students have the chance to go on a two-week trip to Israel. For older students in Year 12, there is a one-week trip to Poland. In the past, there was also a trip to Belgium, but this no longer takes place.
