King Zhending of Zhou (Chinese: 周貞定王; pinyin: Zhōu Zhēndìng Wáng), whose personal name was Ji Jie, was an important ruler in ancient China. He was the twenty-eighth king of the Zhou dynasty. He also holds the title of the sixteenth king of the Eastern Zhou period.

He ruled for many years, from 468 BC to 441 BC. This was a time of big changes in China.

Who Was King Zhending of Zhou?

King Zhending was a leader during a period known as the Eastern Zhou dynasty. This dynasty was one of the longest in Chinese history. Kings like Zhending helped to shape ancient China.

His full name was Ji Jie. The "Ji" part was his family name, which was very common for the Zhou royal family. The "Jie" part was his personal given name.

His Time as King

King Zhending ruled for about 27 years. During his reign, China was going through a time called the Warring States period. This was when different parts of China were often fighting each other.

Even though the Zhou kings were still in charge, their power was slowly getting weaker. Many smaller states were becoming more powerful. King Zhending's job was to keep the kingdom stable during these challenging times.

His Family and Successors

King Zhending had four sons. After he passed away, his sons continued the royal line. This was important for the future of the Zhou dynasty.

Here are his sons:

  • His first son was Prince Quji. He became King Ai of Zhou in 441 BC, but only ruled for a very short time.
  • His second son was Prince Shuxi. He also ruled briefly as King Si of Zhou in 441 BC.
  • His third son was Prince Wei. He became King Kao of Zhou and ruled from 440 BC to 426 BC.
  • His fourth son was Prince Jie. He became known as Duke Huan of Western Zhou. He ruled from 440 BC to 415 BC.
