History of the Courthouse

The courthouse building in King and Queen Court House was built around 1750. During the American Civil War, Union Army troops set fire to the building. This happened on March 10, 1864. However, the building was repaired after the war. It is still used today.

On June 20, 1863, soldiers from the Confederate States Army reported a raiding party. About 300 Union soldiers were burning and destroying parts of the community.
