What makes Kingvale interesting is that it's located in two different counties at once: Placer County and Nevada County. The northern part of Kingvale is in Nevada County, and the southern part is in Placer County.

Kingvale is found near Soda Springs. It is about 5.5 miles (8.9 km) west of Donner Pass, a famous mountain pass. Kingvale first appeared on an official map in 1955. In 2010, 143 people lived there.
