Kinrooi is a lovely town in the Limburg province of Belgium. It's located between the towns of Maaseik and Bree. In 2006, about 11,978 people lived there. The town covers an area of 54.76 square kilometers. This means about 219 people live in each square kilometer.

Kinrooi became one big municipality on September 18, 1971. This happened when four smaller towns joined together. These towns were Kinrooi, Kessenich, Geistingen-Ophoven, and Molenbeersel. Since then, Kinrooi has had three mayors. The current mayor is Jo Brouns.

A Look at Kinrooi's Past

Before Belgium became an independent country in 1839, Kinrooi was just a small part of the village of Kessenich. The flag of Kinrooi even shows symbols from Kessenich's old shield. After Belgium became independent, Kinrooi grew into its own small municipality.

In 2005, something exciting was found in the center of Kinrooi. Workers were renovating the area when they discovered very old remains from prehistoric times. This shows that people lived in this area a very long time ago!
