Kipling, North Carolina facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Kipling is a small community located in Harnett County, North Carolina, United States. It's not a city or town with its own local government, but rather an unincorporated community. This means it's a place where people live, but it's managed as part of the larger county area. Kipling is situated along U.S. Route 401, a major road, and lies between the communities of Cape Fear and Chalybeate Springs, just north of Lillington.

Kipling is also part of the Dunn Micropolitan Area. This area is then part of an even larger region called the Raleigh–Durham–Cary Combined Statistical Area (CSA). This big area includes many cities and towns that are connected through jobs and daily life, as defined by the United States Census Bureau.

Kipling's History and Identity

For a long time, in the late 1800s, the area we now know as Kipling was called Bradley's Store. It was a common practice for communities to be named after important local businesses or families.

Trying to Become a Town

In 2001, the people living in Kipling tried to make their community an official town. This process is called incorporation. If a community incorporates, it gets its own local government, like a mayor and town council. This allows them to make their own rules and provide services like police, fire, and trash collection. However, the effort to incorporate Kipling did not succeed at that time.

Important Places in Kipling

Even without being an official town, Kipling has important places that serve its residents. One notable landmark is the community's post office. This post office helps people send and receive mail, and it uses the ZIP code 27543.
