Kitirik facts for kids
Kitirik was a super popular children's TV show character! She was a friendly black cat, played by a talented lady named Bunny Orsak. Her show aired on KTRK-TV, an ABC channel in Houston, from 1954 all the way to 1971.
Meet Bunny Orsak
In 1954, a TV station in Houston, Texas, called KTRK/channel 13, hired Wanda Louise Orsak. She was a smart graduate from Louisiana State University who studied speech. Her first job was to be the station's on-air mascot, dressed up as a black cat. Everyone soon started calling her Bunny!
Kitirik's TV Adventures
Bunny started by doing short TV ads and meeting fans in person. Soon, she got her own 30-minute show! On the show, she would introduce fun cartoons for kids. To make the show even more exciting, she brought in her friends: Squeaky the mouse, who was a marionette (a puppet moved by strings), and Nod the Silent clown. Kids even got to visit Kitirik right at the TV studio!
Over the years, Kitirik's show became super popular. It had a few different names, like Kitirik's Carnival, Carousal, and Tree House. No matter the name, kids loved watching Kitirik and her friends!
What Bunny Did Next
After her amazing run as Kitirik, Bunny Orsak started new adventures. In 1969, she opened a successful advertising agency. Later, she even opened a store in The Woodlands, Texas that sold designer clothing.
Eventually, Bunny decided to slow down and semi-retire. Today, she lives in New Mexico with her husband and her own cat, named Kit!
