History of Klagetoh
The name "Klagetoh" comes from the Navajo words "Łeeyiʼ tó." This means "underground water." It refers to an old well that was once very important. This well was the first one built for the community. It is now abandoned, located near the Red Mesa Store.
Long ago, the Anasazi people lived here. They had a large settlement in this area. It might have been as big as the community is today.
Klagetoh is famous for its beautiful Navajo rugs. These rugs are very popular because of their clear and strong designs. Klagetoh rugs often have a bold design in the middle. They also have detailed borders.
The colors usually found in Klagetoh rugs are gray, black, white, and red. They are similar to Ganado rugs. However, Klagetoh rugs mostly use a gray background. Ganado rugs, on the other hand, usually have a red background.
