Klein Point is a headland in the Australian state of South Australia. It is located about 7 kilometres south of Stansbury. You can find it in the area called Wool Bay on the Yorke Peninsula.

Klein Point is home to a special port facility. This port helps to ship limestone for a company called Adelaide Brighton Cement. The company Flinders Ports manages this important port. Before 1965, this place was known as Farquhar Jetty.

History of Klein Point Jetty

The jetty at Klein Point was built in 1920. The South Australian Harbors Board constructed it. This jetty was special because it was the first one in South Australia made with reinforced concrete piles.

When it was first built, the jetty was 79 metres long. The water depth at low tide was about 3.3 metres. Over time, the jetty was made wider in 1927. It was changed again in 1953. In 1965, a T-shaped section was added. This made it easier to load ships. Today, the jetty is 150 metres long. The water depth at low tide is now about 6.5 metres.

Shipping Limestone

Klein Point is very important for shipping limestone. About 2 million tonnes of limestone are sent from here every year. This limestone travels across Gulf St Vincent.

The ship named Accolade II is currently used for this job. It carries the limestone across the gulf. The journey ends at the Port Adelaide terminal.
