Klondike is a small place in Oregon, United States. It's not a city with its own government, but a community in Sherman County.

Near Klondike, you can find the Klondike III Wind Project. This is Oregon's biggest wind farm. It has 176 giant turbines that make clean energy from the wind!

A Look Back in Time

How Klondike Got Its Name

Back in 1898, workers were busy building the Columbia Southern Railway. When the train tracks reached this spot, exciting news arrived. People heard that gold had been found far to the north, in a place called the Klondike River area.

Many of the workers got very excited. They left their jobs to go search for gold! Because so many people left for the Klondike gold rush, the people who stayed decided to name this new place "Klondike" after that famous river.

The First Post Office

Klondike got its own post office on January 11, 1899. A person named A.B. Potter was the very first postmaster. A postmaster is the person in charge of a post office. This post office helped people send and receive mail for many years. However, it closed down on November 30, 1951.
