The Klutina River is a beautiful river located in Alaska, United States. The local Ahtna people call it Tl’atii Na’. This river flows for about 63-mile (101 km) (101 km). It is a smaller stream that eventually joins the much larger Copper River.

The River's Journey

The Klutina River begins high up at the Klutina Glacier. This glacier is found in the tall Chugach Mountains. From there, the river flows generally towards the northeast.

It passes through a lake called Klutina Lake. Finally, the Klutina River meets the Copper River near a community called Copper Center. The spot where it joins the Copper River is about 66 miles (106 km) northeast of Valdez.

Fishing Fun!

The Klutina River and its smaller streams are a very popular place for fishing. Many people come here to catch fish. You can find two main types of salmon here.

  • Sockeye Salmon: These are also known as red salmon. They are a favorite fish for many anglers.
  • King Salmon: Also called Chinook salmon, these fish are huge! They can sometimes weigh between 50 and 90 pounds (23 and 41 kg) (23 to 41 kg). Imagine catching a fish that big!

Besides salmon, you can also find other cool fish in the Klutina River. These include Dolly Varden and Arctic grayling.

How to Visit

It's quite easy to get to the Klutina River. The Richardson Highway passes right through Copper Center. This highway gives you good access to the river.

If you want to explore more, there are other ways to reach different parts of the river. You can use floatplanes or jet boats. There are also trails and a special road for four-wheel-drive vehicles. This road goes between Copper Center and Klutina Lake. These options help people reach the best fishing spots in the area.
