Koit Toome, born on January 3, 1979, is a famous Estonian singer and actor. He is well-known for his amazing voice and for performing in many musicals. Koit has also represented Estonia twice in the exciting Eurovision Song Contest.

Koit Toome's Music Journey
Koit Toome's music career began in 1994. A music producer named Mikk Targo discovered him at a music school. At first, Mikk planned for Koit to be a solo singer.
Forming the Pop Duo Code One
Soon, it became clear that Koit's school friend, Sirli Hiius, sounded perfect when singing with him. So, Koit's solo plan changed, and they formed a pop duo called Code One. This duo became very popular and had many hit songs that people still love today. Even though they are not actively singing together as a duo anymore, Koit and Sirli sometimes still perform together.
Eurovision Adventures
Koit Toome has proudly represented Estonia at the Eurovision Song Contest two times.
First Eurovision Appearance in 1998
In 1998, Koit went to Eurovision in Birmingham. He sang a song called "Mere lapsed" and finished in 12th place. That same year, he released his first solo album. He has released five albums in total, both as a solo artist and with Code One. His most recent album, "Kaugele siit" ("Far from here"), came out in March 2010.
Dancing with the Stars Win
In 2007, Koit Toome won the Estonian version of Dancing with the Stars, called Tantsud tähtedega. He won with his dance partner, Kertu Tänav.
Second Eurovision Appearance in 2017
In 2017, Koit Toome teamed up with singer Laura Põldvere. They won the Estonian national selection, Eesti Laul, with their duet "Verona." They then represented Estonia at Eurovision in Kyiv, Ukraine. Many fans loved their song and thought they would do very well. Even though they were a fan favorite, they did not make it to the Grand Final.
Eesti Laul 2021 Attempt
Koit Toome also tried to represent Estonia again in 2021. He entered Eesti Laul 2021 with his song "We Could Have Been Beautiful." He finished in fourth place in the national final.
Koit Toome in Musical Theatre
Koit Toome is also a very active and successful actor in musical theatre. He has played many main characters in musicals, both in Estonia and during tours.
Famous Musical Roles
His first big role was Alfred in Tanz der Vampire in Tallinn in 2000. After that, he played Marius in Les Misérables in Tallinn in 2001. He also played Chris in Miss Saigon in Tallinn in 2002, a role he later performed in Helsinki.
Other important roles include Tony in West Side Story in Tartu in 2005. He also had leading roles in musicals like Chess, Rent, and Hair in Estonia and Germany.
The Phantom of the Opera
From 2014 to 2016, Koit Toome starred as Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera at the Vanemuine theatre. Later, he took over the main role of the "Phantom" for the final shows in 2016-2017 and 2020-2021.
Current Musical Work
Koit Toome continues to perform at the Vanemuine theatre. He is now playing the role of Jean Valjean in the Estonian revival of Les Misérables, which first opened in November 2017.
Voice Acting Career
Koit Toome has also used his voice talents to dub animated films. He is the Estonian voice for Lightning McQueen in the Disney movie Cars. This means he speaks all of Lightning McQueen's lines in Estonian!
Personal Life
Koit Toome's uncle, Indrek Toome, was the Prime Minister of Estonia from 1988 to 1990.
