Kokardine is a small place located in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. It is found northwest of the town of Koorda. This area is part of the Shire of Wongan-Ballidu.
The name Kokardine comes from an Aboriginal word. It might mean "water in the grass". A surveyor first wrote down this name in 1892, referring to a nearby waterhole or "soak".
Kokardine's History
In 1927, a new railway line was being built. This line connected the towns of Amery and Kalannie.
The local government, known as the Wongan Hills road board, asked for a townsite to be created. They wanted it near a railway stop that would later be named Kokardine. The official townsite was approved and named in 1929.
