Koror is a state in the Republic of Palau. It is the main center for business and trade. Koror is made up of several islands. The biggest and most well-known is Koror Island.
Koror's Past: A Journey Through Time
The first time people from the West saw Koror was in 1543. This was at the end of January. They also saw the islands of Babeldaob and Peleliu. These islands were then called Los Arrecifes, which means "The Reefs" in Spanish.
Later, in November and December of 1710, Spanish missionaries visited these three islands again. They explored them more. Two years after that, in 1712, a Spanish naval officer explored them in even more detail.
In 1919, Koror became the capital of the South Pacific Mandate. This was a group of islands that Japan controlled after World War I.
