Krakow is a small community in the state of Wisconsin, United States. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or village. It's also a "census-designated place," which means the government counts its population for official records.
Most of Krakow is in Shawano County, but a small part is in Oconto County. You can find Krakow along Wisconsin Highway 32, just north of a town called Pulaski. It's located within the areas known as the towns of Chase and Angelica.
Krakow has its own post office with the ZIP code 54137. In 2010, about 354 people lived there.
Life in Krakow
Today, Krakow is a quiet place with a Catholic church and a tavern. But it used to be a much busier community!
Krakow's Past
Years ago, Krakow was a lively hub. It had a grocery store where people could buy food and supplies. There was also a cheese factory, making delicious Wisconsin cheese. A pickle canning company operated there, too, preserving vegetables.
For entertainment, Krakow even had movie theaters! There were several taverns, which are like local pubs. The community also had schools: a parochial school (often run by a church) and a public school. These places show that Krakow was once a bustling center for its residents.
