Krigia wrightii, also known as Wright's dwarfdandelion, is a small plant found in North America. It belongs to the sunflower family, just like the big sunflowers you might know!
About Wright's Dwarfdandelion
Wright's dwarfdandelion is a very small plant. It usually grows less than 25 centimeters (about 10 inches) tall. This plant is an annual, which means it lives for only one growing season. It has a main root called a taproot, which grows straight down into the ground.
Where It Grows
This plant grows naturally in the southern Great Plains region of the central United States. You can find it in states like Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana.
What It Looks Like
Each flower stalk of Wright's dwarfdandelion grows just one flower head. These flower heads have 5 to 25 bright yellow ray flowers. Ray flowers are the petal-like parts you see on a sunflower. Interestingly, this plant does not have disc flowers, which are the tiny flowers usually found in the center of a sunflower.
