Biography
Kristi Allik's Early Life and Education
Kristi Anne Allik was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She loved music and studied it at several universities. She earned her first music degree from the University of Toronto. Later, she received advanced degrees from Princeton University and the University of Southern California.
During her studies, Kristi Allik learned from many famous composers. Some of her teachers included John Weinzweig, Oskar Morawetz, and Milton Babbitt. They helped her learn how to create her own unique music.
Kristi Allik's Teaching Career
After finishing her education, Kristi Allik became a university professor. She taught at the University of Victoria and the University of Western Ontario. In 1987, she moved to Kingston, Ontario. There, she became a professor at Queen's University.
At Queen's University, she taught many interesting subjects. These included electronic music, composition (how to write music), and jazz. She also led the Electronic Music Studios and the Computer Laboratory of Music Applications. She retired from teaching in July 2013.
