About Kristi Allik
Kristi Anne Allik was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on February 6, 1952. She loved music and studied it a lot! She earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Toronto. Then, she went on to get a Master of Fine Arts degree from Princeton University. She also earned a doctorate from the University of Southern California. A doctorate is a very high degree you can get at a university.
Kristi Allik learned how to compose music from many famous teachers. These included John Weinzweig, Oskar Morawetz, and Milton Babbitt.
After finishing her studies, Kristi Allik started teaching. She taught at the University of Victoria from 1980 to 1981. Then, she taught at the University of Western Ontario from 1982 to 1987. Later, she moved to Kingston, Ontario. There, she became a professor of music at Queen's University.
At Queen's University, she taught electronic music, composition, and jazz. She also directed the Electronic Music Studios. These studios are places where students can create music using computers and electronic instruments. She retired from teaching in July 2013.
Kristi Allik's music has been played in many places around the world. Her compositions have been heard in Canada, the United States, Europe, Cuba, and South America. She has also written articles and essays for professional music magazines.
