Kristinestad is a charming town located on the west coast of Finland. It sits in the Ostrobothnia region, right by the Gulf of Bothnia. The town is famous for its beautiful old wooden houses and narrow streets.
Kristinestad is a bilingual municipality. This means it has two official languages: Finnish and Swedish. About 56% of the people speak Swedish, while around 42% speak Finnish. The rest speak other languages.

History of Kristinestad
Kristinestad was officially founded in 1649. It was established by a man named Per Brahe the Younger. The town was named in honor of Queen Christina of Sweden.
One cool fact about Kristinestad is that in 2011, it became Finland's first Cittaslow community. Cittaslow is a movement where towns work to keep their unique local character. They focus on slowing down the pace of life and improving the quality of life for everyone.

Kristinestad is located in the western part of Finland. It's right on the shore of the Bothnian Sea. The town covers an area of about 683.25 km2 (263.80 sq mi) of land. It also includes about 14.66 km2 (5.66 sq mi) of inland water.
