Kristy Dempsey was born in Lake City, South Carolina, in the United States. As a child, she moved around a lot, living in places like Gastonia, North Carolina, Statesville, North Carolina, Elizabethton, Tennessee, and Greenville, South Carolina. She went to Furman University in Greenville. Later, she lived in Carrollton, Georgia. In 1998, she moved to Belo Horizonte, Brazil, where she lives today.
Besides being an author, Kristy Dempsey is also a teacher. She teaches English to middle school and high school students, including Advanced Placement classes. She has also worked as a school librarian. Currently, she teaches at the American School of Belo Horizonte.
