Krumville, New York facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Krumville (sometimes called Kromville) is a small community in Ulster County, New York, in the United States. It's located in the southeastern part of the town of Olive. Krumville got its name from one of the first Dutch families who settled there a long time ago.

Krumville is surrounded by other small places. To its northwest is Samsonville, and to the north is Olivebridge. To the southeast, it borders the town of Marbletown, and to the southwest, the town of Rochester. Krumville is about 774 feet (236 meters) above sea level.

What is a Hamlet?

A hamlet is a very small settlement, even smaller than a village. It usually doesn't have its own local government. Hamlets are often just a cluster of homes and maybe a few businesses. Krumville is a great example of a quiet, peaceful hamlet.

Life in Krumville

The main business in Krumville is the Country Inn. This place used to be called the Deer Park Falls House. It was a popular boarding house and inn for many years. Now, it's a bed-and-breakfast with a restaurant.

Near the inn is a long, narrow valley called Deer Park or Deerhaven. Water from this valley flows into Beaver Lake and Beaverdam Creek. You can also find Deer Park Falls there.

The center of Krumville is where two roads meet:

  • Ulster County Route 2: This road connects Kripplebush and Samsonville.
  • County Route 2A: This road is also known as Krumville Road or Krumville-Davis Corners Road.

The Krumville Church

The Krumville Reformed Church was once a very important part of the community. The original church building was first located in Samsonville. In 1873, it was taken apart and rebuilt right here in Krumville.

Sadly, that church building burned down in 1946. But the people of Krumville didn't give up! They turned the old Krumville schoolhouse into a new church. This new church was dedicated in 1955. The church held its last service in 2011.

Mail and Mentions

Krumville used to have its own Post Office. Today, it shares a ZIP code (12461) with its neighbor, Olivebridge. The U.S. Postal Service still recognizes Krumville as a valid address within that ZIP code.

Krumville has even been mentioned in popular culture!

  • The writer Spalding Gray talked about Krumville in his works Swimming to Cambodia and Terrors of Pleasure.
  • The music artist Oneohtrix Point Never has a song called "Krumville" on his 2023 album, Again.
