Marbletown is a town located in Ulster County, New York, in the United States. In 2020, about 5,658 people lived there.

The town is found near the center of Ulster County. It is southwest of the City of Kingston. Major roads like US 209 and NY 213 go through Marbletown. It is also on the eastern edge of the beautiful Catskill Park.

History of Marbletown

Early Settlement and Formation

People first started settling in the Marbletown area around 1638. The land was officially given to Henry Beekman, Thomas Garton, and Charles Brodhead in 1703. This official document was called a land patent.

A Brief Capital and Town Changes

During the American Revolutionary War, the city of Kingston was burned by the British. For a short time, Marbletown actually served as the capital of New York State!

Over the years, parts of Marbletown were used to create new towns. In 1823, a part became the Town of Olive. Later, in 1844, another part was used to form the Town of Rosendale. The town of Marbletown itself was officially formed in 1788.
