Krystle N. Matthews (born February 27, 1981) is an American politician. She also worked as an engineering planner. She was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives for the 117th district. She served in this role from 2018 to 2022. Krystle Matthews is a member of the Democratic Party.

Serving in the South Carolina House of Representatives
In 2018, Krystle Matthews was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives. She won against the person who held the seat before, Bill Crosby. This was an important moment because she became the first black woman to represent her district.
While in the House, she was part of important groups called committees. These included the Medical, Military, Public, and Municipal Affairs committee. She was also on the Operations and Management committee. These committees help make decisions about different topics for the state.
Running for the U.S. Senate in 2022
In 2021, Krystle Matthews announced she would run for a seat in the United States Senate. This is a much bigger role, representing the entire state in the U.S. Congress.
During her campaign, there were some discussions about phone recordings. Despite these discussions, Matthews won the Democratic primary election. This meant she became the official Democratic candidate for the Senate race. She said that what she had said was true and that she had talked about these things before. She also said she was sorry for some of the language she used in a private conversation.
The 2022 Elections
In 2022, Krystle Matthews ran for two different positions at the same time. She ran for the U.S. Senate and also for her seat in the South Carolina House of Representatives.
She lost the U.S. Senate race to the person who was already in office, Tim Scott. She also lost her South Carolina House of Representatives race to Jordan Pace.

Krystle Matthews was born in Sandusky, Ohio. She finished high school there in 1999. She now lives in Ladson, South Carolina. She has five children. Before becoming a full-time politician, she worked as an engineering planner until 2021.
