About Ksenia Stolbova

Ksenia Andreyevna Stolbova was born on 7 February 1992. Her hometown is Saint Petersburg, Russia. She studied at the Lesgaft Academy of Physical Education in Saint Petersburg.

Ksenia's Skating Journey

Starting Out in Figure Skating

Ksenia became interested in skating when she was three years old. However, she did not start skating until a few years later. She kept asking her family until they let her try.

After several years of single skating, Ksenia wanted to try something new. At 14, she switched to pair skating. This is where two skaters perform together.

Ksenia first skated with Artur Minchuk. They were partners for three seasons, from 2006 to 2009. They finished 11th at the Russian Championships in 2008.

Partnering with Fedor Klimov

In the spring of 2009, Ksenia teamed up with Fedor Klimov. Their coach was Ludmila Velikova, and they trained in Saint Petersburg.

In their first season together (2009–10), they did well in junior events. They won the Russian Junior title. They also earned a bronze medal at the Junior Worlds in 2010.

The next season (2010–11), they won two Junior Grand Prix events. They also competed in senior events for the first time. They won a silver medal at the Junior Grand Prix Final. At the 2011 World Junior Championships, they won another silver medal.

First Senior Medals

For the 2011–12 season, Ksenia and Fedor competed in more senior events. They won their first senior national medal, a silver, at the 2012 Russian Championships.

They also got to compete at the 2012 European Championships. They won their first European medal, a bronze. They set new personal best scores there.

In the 2012–13 season, they worked on making their twist a triple. They won their first senior Grand Prix medal, a bronze, at the 2012 Cup of China. They also won a bronze medal at the 2013 Russian Championships.

After this season, they decided to move to Moscow. They wanted to train with coach Nina Mozer. This move helped them improve their basic skating skills.

Olympic Glory and World Medals

The 2013–14 season was very successful for Ksenia and Fedor. They won a bronze medal at the 2013 Skate America. They then won a gold medal at the 2013 Winter Universiade in Italy.

They also won their first national title at the 2014 Russian Championships. At the 2014 European Championships, they won a silver medal.

At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, they were amazing. They helped Team Russia win the gold medal in the team event. In the pairs event, they won the silver medal. This was a huge achievement!

After the Olympics, they competed at the 2014 World Championships. They won another silver medal there.

Grand Prix Final Champions

In the 2014–15 season, Ksenia and Fedor won two Grand Prix events. They then took silver at the Grand Prix Final. They also won their second national title. They earned another silver medal at the 2015 European Championships.

The 2015–16 season was also strong. They won gold at the 2015 Ondrej Nepela Trophy. They then won gold at the 2015 Rostelecom Cup. These wins qualified them for the 2015–16 Grand Prix Final in Barcelona. They placed first in both parts of the competition and won the gold medal! They set a new personal best score.

Unfortunately, Fedor had an allergic reaction, and they had to withdraw from some events. At the 2016 World Championships, they finished 4th.

Later Seasons and Retirement

In mid-2016, Ksenia had an ankle injury. This caused them to miss some competitions. They returned in late 2016 and won gold at the 2017 Russian Championships. At the 2017 World Championships, they finished 5th.

In the 2017–18 season, they won two silver medals in the Grand Prix series. They also won silver at the 2018 Russian Championships and 2018 European Championships. However, Ksenia was not invited to the 2018 Winter Olympics. They later withdrew from the World Championships.

Ksenia and Fedor ended their partnership later that year. Ksenia then teamed up with Andrei Novoselov. They competed in the 2019–20 season but Ksenia announced her retirement in February 2020.
