The Kuala Lumpur Dragons are a professional basketball team from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They used to play in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL). In 2016, they also played as the Blustar Detergent Dragons in the Philippines' PBA Developmental League.

Team History

The team started as the KL Dragons in 2009. Later, they became the Westports KL Dragons after getting a sponsor called Westports. Before the 2012 season, their name changed again to the Westports Malaysia Dragons.

The Dragons were very strong in their first four ABL seasons. They reached the semi-finals every time. However, they lost in the semi-finals to different teams each year. In 2014, the Dragons made it all the way to the finals. They played against Hi-Tech Bangkok City but did not win the championship that year.

In 2011, the Dragons represented the ABL in the 2011 FIBA Asia Champions Cup in the Philippines. They did not win any games in that tournament.

The team had a big win in the 2015–16 ASEAN Basketball League season. They became the champions! This win also allowed them to play in the 2016 FIBA Asia Champions Cup. They also joined the 2016 PBA D-League Foundation Cup as the Blustar Detergent Dragons, but again, they did not win any games.

For the 2019–20 ASEAN Basketball League season, the team changed its name back to the Kuala Lumpur Dragons.
