Kuber Nath Rai (born March 26, 1933 – died June 5, 1996) was a famous Indian writer. He was known for his amazing essays in Hindi literature and his deep knowledge of Sanskrit. He is considered one of the most important essay writers in Hindi.

His Early Life and Education

Kuber Nath Rai grew up in Matsa village, in a place called Ghazipur district in Uttar Pradesh, India. His father was Vakunth Narayan Rai. Kuber Nath Rai started his schooling right in his village. Later, he went to Queen's College in Varanasi for his high school studies.

He studied at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and earned a master's degree in English Literature from Calcutta University. He began his career teaching English. Eventually, he became the principal of Swami Sahajanand Mahavidyalaya before he retired.

His Career as a Teacher

Kuber Nath Rai spent many years teaching. From 1958 to 1986, he taught English at Nalbari College in Assam. After that, from 1986 to 1995, he worked as a principal at Swami Sahajanand Saraswati PG College in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh.

He received important awards for his work. One of them was the Moortidevi Award from Bharatiya Jnanpith. He also got many awards from the governments of UP, WB, and Assam.

His Career as a Writer

Kuber Nath Rai loved writing essays more than anything else. He focused all his writing on this type of literature.

His collections of essays are very famous. Some of his well-known books include Gandha Madan, Priya neel-kanti, Ras Aakhetak, Vishad Yog, Nishad Bansuri, and Parna mukut. These books made the essay form much richer in Hindi literature.
