History of Kunesh
The community of Kunesh got its name from an important person in its early days.
A post office was opened in Kunesh on March 8, 1894. This post office was named after George Kunesh (1864–1924). He was the very first postmaster for the community. A postmaster is the person in charge of a post office.
George Kunesh was born in a country called Bohemia (which is now part of the Czech Republic). He became a citizen of the United States in 1889. His parents, Jan (John) and Dorota (Dora) Kuneš, also came from Bohemia. They moved to the United States and became farmers in Kewaunee County. The post office in Kunesh operated for a little over 11 years, closing on August 14, 1905.
