Kungens lilla piga is a well-known children's song from Sweden. It was written by Anna-Lisa Frykman (1889-1960). The song tells the story of a young girl who works as a housemaid at a royal court. A housemaid is someone who helps with chores and cleaning in a large home. A royal court is the official home of a king or queen.
The song became very popular and was even featured with an illustration by Elsa Beskow in the 1943 songbook "Nu ska vi sjunga". This picture showed a little girl acting as the housemaid.
Over time, some people have criticized the song. They felt it made child labor seem good or acceptable. Child labor means when children are made to work, often in difficult conditions, instead of going to school or playing.

One of the first times "Kungens lilla piga" was recorded was on 28 September 1945. The singer was Nadja Hjärne-Ohrberg, and she performed with Stig Holm's music group. This record was then released in December of the same year.
