What Does a Maid Do?
Maids perform many important chores around a house. These tasks help families live in a tidy and comfortable space. Their work makes daily life easier for many people.
Daily Tasks of a Maid
A maid's job often includes a variety of duties. They might do the cooking for the family. Ironing clothes and washing laundry are also common tasks. Maids are experts at cleaning the house. This includes dusting, vacuuming, and tidying up rooms.
They may also help with grocery shopping. Sometimes, maids care for pets, making sure they are fed and happy. Taking care of children, similar to a nanny, is another important role. In some countries, especially poorer ones, maids might even help care for elderly people or those with disabilities, much like a nurse.
Why Do Maids Wear Uniforms?
Many maids are asked by their employers to wear a special uniform. A uniform helps people easily recognize a maid. It can also create a professional look. Uniforms often show that the maid is part of the household staff.
Protecting Domestic Workers
The work of maids and other domestic workers is very important. In June 2011, the International Labour Organization (ILO) created something special. It's called Convention No. 189. This convention is a set of rules and guidelines. It aims to protect the rights of domestic workers, including maids. It helps ensure they have fair working conditions and are treated well.
