Kurikka is a big owner in important Finnish energy companies like Fortum and Neste Oil. The local government is mostly led by the Finnish Centre party. This is because the town has a strong history in farming.
The nearby areas of Jurva and Jalasjärvi became part of Kurikka in 2009 and 2016. This made Kurikka a larger municipality.
