What Was Kurwai State?
Kurwai was known as a Princely state in British India. This meant it was ruled by its own local leader, called a Nawab. However, it was also under the protection and influence of the British Empire.
The state was located in the central part of India. Its main town was also called Kurwai. The people living there spoke Hindustani. They practiced both Islam and Hinduism.
The Beginning of Kurwai
Kurwai state was founded in 1713. It was started by a man named Mohammad Diler Khan. He was an Afghan soldier who served in the Mughal Army. He became the first ruler, or Nawab, of Kurwai.
Important People from Kurwai
The last ruler of Kurwai was Nawab Sarwar Ali Khan. His wife was named Abida Sultan. She had a connection to another important state, Bhopal State.
Abida Sultan decided not to claim her right to rule Bhopal. Instead, she chose to move to Pakistan in 1950. Pakistan was a new country formed for Muslims. She later worked for Pakistan's government in foreign relations.
Her son, Shaharyar Khan, also became a well-known figure. He followed in his mother's footsteps and became the Foreign Secretary of Pakistan. Later, he even became the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, which manages cricket in Pakistan.
