Kwon Ri-se (born August 16, 1991 – died September 7, 2014), also known as Rise, was a singer from Japan with Korean family roots. She was a member of the South Korean girl group called Ladies' Code. This group was managed by Polaris Entertainment. Before joining Ladies' Code, Rise took part in Miss Korea 2009. She was even named "Miss Korea Japan Jin." She also made it to the Top 12 on a TV show called Star Audition The Great Birth by MBC. Sadly, she passed away at age 23 due to a car accident.

Her Life Story
Rise was born in Japan. Her family had lived in Japan for four generations, but they were originally from Korea. She went to school in Fukushima and Tokyo. She later studied Economics and Business Administration at Seikei University. Before she became a singer, Rise worked as a model. She also represented Japan in the Miss Korea 2009 contest. In 2011, after being on Star Audition The Great Birth, she signed with a company called KeyEast.
In 2011, Rise appeared on a reality TV show called We Got Married (Season 3) on MBC. On the show, she was paired with another singer, David Oh. They also filmed a commercial together for LG.
In 2013, Rise decided to focus on her music career. Her contract with KeyEast ended, and she signed with Polaris Entertainment.
Her Music Career
Starting with Ladies' Code (2013–2014)
On February 24, 2013, Polaris Entertainment shared a video teaser for Rise on their YouTube channel. After showing teasers for all the members, the music video for Ladies' Code's first song was released on March 6, 2013. Their first album, Code#1 Bad Girl, came out on March 7, 2013. The group performed their new songs on a TV show called M Countdown on the same day.
On September 1, 2013, Ladies' Code released a video teaser for their second album's main song, Pretty Pretty. The music video for this song came out on September 3, 2013. Their second album, Code#02 Pretty Pretty, was released on September 5, 2013. Later, on February 13, 2014, the music video for their first single, So Wonderful, was released. The group performed this new song for the first time on M! Countdown on February 13.
On August 6, 2014, the music video for Ladies' Code's second single, Kiss Kiss, was released. The song itself came out on August 7, 2014.
Her Passing
After performing for a TV show, the Ladies' Code group was driving back to Seoul. Around 1:30 AM on September 3, 2014, their van was in a serious car accident. The road was wet from rain, and the van lost control, hitting a wall.
Rise was very badly hurt in the crash. Her bandmates Ashley and Zuny had minor injuries. Sojung was also seriously injured, and their bandmate EunB sadly passed away at the scene.
Rise was rushed to the hospital. Doctors tried their best to help her, performing several surgeries for her head and other injuries. However, her condition was very serious, and she did not wake up.
Rise passed away on September 7, 2014, at 10:10 AM. She was in Ajou University Hospital. Her funeral was held in South Korea on September 9, 2014. Many famous South Korean stars came to pay their respects. After the funeral, Rise was cremated. Her ashes were then taken back to Japan, where another funeral was held for her family and close friends.
