Kye Allums (born October 23, 1989) is an American who used to play college basketball for the George Washington University women's team. In 2010, Kye shared that he is a transgender man. This made him the first openly transgender athlete in NCAA Division I college sports. Kye Allums is now a speaker, artist, and mentor for young people in the LGBT community. He helps others understand what it means to be transgender.

Kye Allums' Early Life and College Basketball
Kye Allums grew up in Circle Pines, Minnesota, United States. He went to Centennial High School. After high school, Kye played basketball at George Washington University. He was a guard on the women's basketball team for three seasons.
Becoming Openly Transgender
While playing college basketball, Kye began to tell people to call him "Kye." In 2010, he shared that he is a trans man. This means that while he was born with a female body, he identifies as a man. He was the first college athlete in NCAA Division I to be openly transgender.
In May 2011, Kye decided to leave the George Washington University basketball team. He graduated from the university later that year. He earned a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. Kye has shared that he faced very difficult times with his mental health in 2014.
Kye Allums as an Advocate
After college, Kye Allums started traveling across the country. He visits high schools, colleges, and universities. He talks about what it is like to be a transgender person. Kye shares how it is possible to be transgender and still play on a sports team. He also gives advice on how to deal with bullies.
Projects and Recognition
Kye Allums was featured in a documentary called The T Word. This film, made by Laverne Cox, shows the lives of young transgender people. It helps explain their experiences.
Kye also created a project called "I Am Enough." This project encourages other young people in the LGBTQ community to share their stories. It helps people see that they are not alone in their experiences.
