Where is Circle Pines Located?
Circle Pines covers about 1.97 square miles (5.04 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.
A main road in the city is Lake Drive, also known as County Road 23. Interstate 35W is very close to the city. Circle Pines is about 17 miles away from the center of the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area.
A stream called Rice Creek flows through the city.

The Centennial Schools (Independent School District #12) serves Circle Pines. It also serves nearby cities like Blaine, Lino Lakes, Centerville, and Lexington.
Students in Circle Pines attend one of the elementary schools first. These include Centennial Elementary, Rice Lake Elementary, Blue Heron Elementary, or Golden Lake Elementary. After elementary school, they go to Centennial Middle School. Finally, they attend Centennial High School.

The mayor of Circle Pines is elected for a two-year term. City council members are elected for a four-year term. The current mayor is Dave Bartholomay. The city council members are Steve McChesney, Dean Goldberg, Nici Dorner, and Matt Percy.

History of Circle Pines
Circle Pines started as a special kind of community. It was a planned cooperative community. In this type of community, homeowners owned equal shares in a group that owned and developed the area.
The name "Circle Pines" was chosen because the cooperative movement in the 1940s used a symbol. This symbol was a circle with two pine trees inside it. Even though the city is no longer run as a co-op, it still has a city-owned gas company. This company reminds people of the city's cooperative past.
The Gibas family was one of the first families in the Circle Pines cooperative. Their old papers, including articles, speeches, news clippings, and photos, can tell us more about how Circle Pines began.
