Early Life and Education
Scott Adsit was born in Northbrook, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. His father was a real estate lawyer. In high school, he was known for being a class clown.
After high school, he went to Columbia College Chicago. A teacher there, Sheldon Patinkin, saw his talent and encouraged him to join The Second City. This is a very famous comedy group in Chicago where many great comedians got their start.
Career Beginnings
The Second City
Adsit joined The Second City in 1987 and became a main performer in 1994. He was in several award-winning comedy shows, called revues. For one show, Paradigm Lost, he won an award for Best Actor in a Comedy.
He worked with other comedians who later became famous, like Tina Fey and Adam McKay. A documentary was even made about his group at The Second City, showing how they created their comedy shows.
Moving to Los Angeles
In 1998, Adsit moved to Los Angeles to work on a TV show pilot with his college friend Dino Stamatopoulos. The show wasn't made, but Adsit stayed in California. He started getting small roles in TV shows and commercials.
He appeared on the comedy show Mr. Show and in the HBO series about the band Tenacious D. He also had a guest role on an episode of Friends in 2001.
Television and Animation Success
Working on Moral Orel
From 2005 to 2008, Adsit helped create a stop-motion animation show for Adult Swim called Moral Orel. Stop-motion is a type of animation where puppets are moved and photographed frame by frame. He co-wrote, co-directed, and co-produced the show.
He also voiced several characters, including the main character's father, Clay Puppington. He was nominated for an Annie Award, a major award for animation, for his voice work on the show.
Starring in 30 Rock
In 2005, Adsit's friend and former castmate from The Second City, Tina Fey, asked him to be in a new show she was creating. The show was 30 Rock, a sitcom about the people who work on a TV sketch comedy show.
Adsit played Pete Hornberger, a producer on the show-within-a-show. 30 Rock was a huge success and ran for seven seasons. The cast, including Adsit, won a Screen Actors Guild Award for their performance as a group.
More Animation: Frankenhole
After Moral Orel, Adsit and Dino Stamatopoulos created another stop-motion series called Mary Shelley's Frankenhole. The show aired from 2010 to 2012. Adsit was a director, writer, producer, and voice actor for many of the main characters.
Voicing the Famous Baymax
Big Hero 6
In 2014, Adsit took on one of his most famous roles when he voiced Baymax in the Disney animated movie Big Hero 6. Baymax is a gentle, inflatable robot designed to be a healthcare companion.
