Kyle Barri Duncan (born August 8, 1997) is an American professional soccer player. He plays as a right-back for the Major League Soccer team New York Red Bulls. A right-back is a defender who plays on the right side of the field.

Playing Career

Early Years and Youth Teams

Kyle Duncan was born in Brooklyn, New York. He started his soccer journey at the New York Red Bulls Academy. This is a special training program for young, talented players.

In 2014, Kyle played for the Red Bulls' reserve team. He also started 13 games for the under-18 team. In 2015, he decided to look for opportunities in Europe instead of signing a professional contract with New York Red Bulls II.

Time in France with Valenciennes

In October 2015, Kyle signed a two-year contract with Valenciennes, a club in France. During his first year, he played for their second team, Valenciennes II. He made his first appearance on May 14, 2016.

For the 2016–17 season, Kyle moved up to the main Valenciennes team. However, he did not play in any official games for them.

Return to New York Red Bulls

After two seasons in France, Kyle came back to the United States. He trained with the New York Red Bulls in January 2018. The Red Bulls were impressed by his hard work and signed him to a Major League Soccer (MLS) contract.

He played his first MLS game with the Red Bulls on March 10, 2018. He started as a right-back in a big 4–0 win against Portland Timbers. A commentator even said he was "dominating" the game!

Loan to Red Bulls II

On March 15, 2018, Kyle was also listed on the roster for New York Red Bulls II. This meant he could play for both teams. He got his first MLS assist on March 24, 2018. Sadly, his season ended early on March 31, 2018, because of an ACL injury. An ACL injury is a serious knee injury that takes a long time to heal.

In 2019, Kyle was loaned to New York Red Bulls II again. On August 21, 2019, he scored his first professional goal in a 2–1 win. After playing well with the second team, he was called back to the main Red Bulls squad. On September 19, 2019, he scored his first MLS goal for the Red Bulls.

Key Seasons with Red Bulls

Kyle started the 2020 season strong for New York. On March 1, he scored the first goal of the season and helped with two others in a 3–2 win. He also scored the winning goal in a big rivalry game against New York City FC on August 20, 2020.

At the end of 2020, Kyle was named the New York Red Bulls Defensive Player of the Year. This showed how important he was to the team's defense. In 2021, he continued to be a top player, scoring one goal and helping with three assists in 33 games.

Move to Belgium with Oostende

On November 26, 2021, Kyle joined Oostende, a club in Belgium. He made his debut on January 21, 2022. He played the whole game as a right wing-back, which is a player who helps both in defense and attack on the wing. He played seven games for Oostende that season.

Loan Return to New York Red Bulls

On August 5, 2022, Kyle returned to the New York Red Bulls on a loan deal. A loan means a player temporarily plays for another team. He played for them until the end of the 2022 season. He was loaned back to the Red Bulls again for the 2023 MLS season.

Back to New York Red Bulls Permanently

After the 2023 MLS season, the New York Red Bulls decided to keep Kyle permanently. He signed a contract to stay with the team until the end of the 2025 season. On July 20, 2024, he scored his first goal of the season in a 3-1 victory.

Playing for the United States

Kyle has played for the United States national soccer teams at different age levels. He played for the under-18 and under-20 teams.

He made his debut for the senior national team on December 9, 2020. This was in a friendly game against El Salvador, which the U.S. won 6–0.
