Kyra Minturn Sedgwick (born August 19, 1965) is an American actress, director, and producer. She is famous for her main role as Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson in the crime TV show The Closer (2005–2012). For this role, she won a Golden Globe award in 2007 and an Emmy Award in 2010.
Kyra Sedgwick also starred in the 1992 TV movie Miss Rose White, which won an Emmy Award. She was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her acting in the 1995 movie Something to Talk About. Her other movies include Born on the Fourth of July (1989) and Singles (1992). She also played a character named Madeline Wuntch in the comedy show Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Kyra Sedgwick was born in New York City on August 19, 1965. Her mother, Patricia, was a speech teacher, and her father, Henry, was a businessman. Her parents separated when she was four years old and divorced when she was six.
Kyra has a brother, Robert Sedgwick, who is also an actor. Her half-brother, Mike Stern, is a jazz guitarist. She is also related to other famous people, including William Ellery, who signed the Declaration of Independence.
Kyra went to Friends Seminary school. She later studied theater at the University of Southern California, where she earned her degree.

Kyra Sedgwick married actor Kevin Bacon on September 4, 1988. They met while working on a TV show called Lemon Sky. They have two children together: Travis Sedgwick Bacon and actress Sosie Bacon. The family divides their time between New York City and their farm in Connecticut.
