The Assomption River is a very important river in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, Canada. In French, it is called Rivière l'Assomption. Its name comes from the religious event called the Assumption of Mary. This river helps shape the land and supports many communities.

About the Assomption River
The Assomption River is over 200 kilometers (about 124 miles) long. It collects water from a large area of land. This area, called its drainage basin, covers about 4,220 square kilometers (1,629 square miles).
Where the River Starts
The river begins high up in the Mont Tremblant mountains. As it flows, other rivers join it. These include the de la Boule, Versailles, Noire, la Chaloupe, Ouareau, Saint-Esprit, and Achigan rivers.
Where the River Ends
After its long journey, the Assomption River flows into the Rivière des Prairies. This happens near the town of Repentigny, Quebec.

Many people live in the area around the Assomption River. About 150,000 people call its drainage area home. The river is important for their lives and the local environment.
