La Joya is a small community in New Mexico, United States. It's located in Socorro County, right by the Rio Grande river. La Joya is about 20 miles (32 km) north of the city of Socorro. In 2010, about 82 people lived here. The community even has its own post office, which started way back in 1883.
History of La Joya
La Joya has a long history. It was first settled in 1598 by the Piro Indians. They built a type of village called a pueblo at this location.
