La Loma is a neighborhood in the central part of Modesto, California. This area is officially recognized by the City of Modesto as the La Loma Neighborhood.

History of La Loma

The story of La Loma begins with a small settlement called "Ripperdan." This early town started in 1871. However, it didn't last long and disappeared by the 1900s.

The neighborhood later got its name from La Loma Avenue. This street cuts diagonally through the area. The name la loma means "the hill" in Spanish.
