La Motte is a small city located in the northern part of Jackson County, Iowa, in the United States. In 2020, about 237 people lived there. It is known for its quiet, hilly countryside.

History of La Motte
La Motte was first planned in 1873. Six years later, in 1879, the people living there voted for it to become an official city. The city is named after one of its founders, Alexander La Motte.
In 1878, La Motte had a few important places. These included two stores, a Methodist church, a Masonic lodge (a type of community group), and a factory that made carriages.
Two special buildings in La Motte are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are important historical sites that are protected. These buildings are the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Narrow Gauge Depot (a train station) and the Harris Wagon and Carriage Shop.
