La Primavera is a town and municipality in Colombia. Its name means "The Spring" in Spanish. It is located in the Vichada Department.
History of La Primavera
La Primavera was started by people who moved there from other parts of Colombia. This happened on July 15, 1959.
In 1968, La Primavera became a site for the Colombian National Police. Later, in 1972, it was called a corregimiento. This is a type of local administrative area.
In 1987, La Primavera became a full municipality. It was the second municipality in the Vichada area at that time. In 1991, the Vichada area became the Vichada Department. La Primavera then became one of its main municipalities.
Geography and Location
The municipality of La Primavera is located in a flat area. This region is part of the Orinoquia region, known for its wide plains called the Llanos.
- To the north, La Primavera borders Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The Meta River forms this boundary.
- To the east, it borders the municipality of Puerto Carreño.
- To the south, it borders the municipality of Cumaribo.
- To the west, it borders the municipality of Santa Rosalia.
Many rivers flow through the region. These rivers are all part of the Meta River basin. The total area of the municipality is about 22,159 square kilometers.
Climate
La Primavera has a tropical monsoon climate. This type of climate is known as Am in the Köppen climate system.
- It has heavy rainfall from April to November.
- There is very little rain from December to March.

Economy and Resources
The main way people make a living in La Primavera is through ranching. This means raising cattle and other animals.
People also grow crops for their own use. The main crops are:
Fishing is also becoming more important. People catch about 30 different kinds of fish. These fish are sold and sent to Bogotá, the capital city of Colombia.
The government is also looking into the possibility of finding natural resources. They are studying if there are deposits of titanium and exploring for oil fields.
