Estadio La Rosaleda is a famous football stadium. It is located in the city of Málaga, in southern Spain. Its name means "The Rose Garden" in Spanish. This stadium is the home ground for Málaga CF. It has a large capacity of 30,044 seats. This makes it one of the biggest stadiums in Spain. The stadium also hosts the annual Costa del Sol Trophy Cup.

The stadium first opened on April 13, 1941. This happened because the old football field, Baños del Carmen, was flooded. The official opening was on September 14, 1941. A friendly match was played between CD Málaga and Sevilla. CD Málaga also used its new name for the first time that day.

Major Events at La Rosaleda

La Rosaleda Stadium has hosted many important events. It was one of the stadiums for the 1982 FIFA World Cup. Three matches were played here during that big tournament. The stadium has also hosted seven games for the Spain national football team. It even held two friendly matches, including one with the Andalusia national football team.

Hosting the Peace Cup

In 2009, the region of Andalusia hosted the Peace Cup. Málaga was chosen as one of the host cities. La Rosaleda held four matches for the 2009 Peace Cup. This included an exciting semi-final game. It was played between Porto and Aston Villa.

Women's Football Finals

In 2020, the stadium was chosen for another important event. It hosted the women's Copa de la Reina final. This shows the stadium's role in supporting all kinds of football.

European Club Matches

The stadium hosted its first European club match in 1976. This was a UEFA Champions League knockout game. Real Madrid played against Club Brugge. Real Madrid's usual stadium was not available.

In 2002, La Rosaleda hosted several matches for the UEFA Intertoto Cup. Málaga CF won this cup. This allowed them to play in the UEFA Cup during the 2002–03 season. They reached the quarter-finals before being eliminated.

Charity Football Games

La Rosaleda has also been a place for good causes. In November 2007, it hosted the "V Match Against Poverty." This game featured teams of famous players. They were called "Friends of Zidane" and "Friends of Ronaldo."

In March 2009, another charity match was played. It raised 24,000 euros for people affected by a tornado in Málaga. The local football club played against a team of former players. In June of that year, a benefit match was held to raise money for a football school.

Besides football, La Rosaleda Stadium has hosted many big concerts. Famous artists have performed here for huge crowds.

Stadium Ownership

The stadium is owned by three different groups. These are the city of Málaga, the Málaga Provincial Council, and the Government of Andalusia. They each own an equal share (33.33%). This happened after the previous club, CD Málaga, had financial problems. The owners allow Málaga CF to use the stadium. They also organize other events, like concerts, at the venue.

Stadium Renovations

The stadium underwent a big renovation project. It started in 2000 and finished in 2006. The stadium reopened with the 24th Trofeo Costa del Sol. After the renovation, the stadium could seat 30,044 people. All seats were improved. New features were added, like private boxes and press areas. These changes made the stadium safer and more modern. The renovation project was led by architect José Segui Pérez.

Sporting Facilities

The stadium has more than just the football pitch. It also hosts the official Málaga CF store. There is also a medical center called Corner clinics. The club is planning to open a museum about the team's history. This museum will be located in the lowest part of the Gol stand.
