History of La Serra d'en Galceran
We don't know the original names of this mountain range or village from very old times. But we do know that ancient people, called ancient Iberians, lived here. Their settlements can be found in a place known as El Castellàs.
There are also some amazing cave paintings in the area. These paintings are so important that UNESCO has declared them a World Heritage Site. This means they are protected for everyone to see and learn from.
During the time when Muslims lived here, there was a castle and some farms. These farms helped people grow food in the area.
How the Town Got Its Name
The first written records about this area are from the years 1213 and 1238. These documents tell us that James I of Aragon, a king, took control of this land. He then gave it to a nobleman named Pere Valimanya.
Because of this, in 1364, the place was known as Serra de Valimanya. Later, a nobleman from the Galceran family bought the land. That's how the town got its current name, La Serra d'en Galceran.
On December 6, 1512, a person named Nicolau de Casalduch gave the town its municipal charter. This was an important document that gave the town its own rules and rights.
